The oldest marble company in Spain

Our History
Marble artisans since 1835
We are the oldest marble company in Spain, a legacy of vocation and dedication to natural stone that has been passed down from parents to children for 5 generations.
Our history began long before the arrival of electric lighting or railways in our country; a journey spanning nearly three centuries of craftsmanship, which today we put at the service of the most demanding projects.
More than 190 years transforming stone into art.
Where it all begins
Before it became a company, it was territory. Before it became industry, it was craftsmanship.
In 1835, on a hillside next to the river in Coín, an activity rooted in the land was born: a quarry where stone began to be worked by hand.
A humble origin, yet deeply connected to a place with thousands of years of history, where Phoenicians, Romans, and Arabs had already left their mark.
Here is where MARFESA begins. Not as a brand, but as a legacy.
A tradition passed down through generations
Knowledge was not taught, it was passed on.
Account books that survived time — and fire — bear witness to a constant activity, to a family that understood that stone is not simply extracted: it is interpreted.
Five generations later, that knowledge is still alive.
Four of them marked by the same name: Leandro.
It is no coincidence. It is continuity.
Crossing borders
When craftsmanship grows, the horizon expands.
The third generation took MARFESA beyond Coín, reaching Tangier, where the company established its own factory. A team made up of local workers and professionals from Málaga consolidated an international expansion that was highly unusual for the time.
Everything came to a halt in 1936.
But what truly mattered was not the closure.
It was the ambition to grow that made it possible.
The stone that builds cities
MARFESA ceased to be just a company and became a lasting mark.
During these years, its materials became part of the urban landscape:
- Facades in historic neighborhoods of Seville such as Santa Cruz and Triana
- Major institutional buildings such as Nuevos Ministerios in Madrid
Stone from Coín traveled, transformed, and endured.
And with it, the name MARFESA — even if it was not yet spoken aloud.
Adapting to endure
Tradition either evolves or disappears.
In the 1960s, the business diversified into aggregates.
And in the 1970s came a key transformation: the transition into an electromechanical workshop.
The stone remained the same.
The way of working with it did not.
In 1978 , the great turning point occurred:
The company is reorganized and Mármoles Fernández SA (MARFESA) is officially born.
At this point, it ceased to be only a family story.
It became a company.
From craftsmanship to industry
Know-how becomes a system.
The incorporation of technology made it possible to increase production capacity without losing the artisanal essence. Flooring, cladding, stair treads… were now produced with industrial precision, yet guided by the same enduring principle: quality.
This is the balance that defines MARFESA:
the hand of a craftsman, the precision of industry.
Consolidation
MARFESA becomes a strategic partner, not just a supplier.
The company evolves into a comprehensive business model:
- International material selection
- Custom design
- On-site measurement
- Supply and installation
Working with marble, granite, quartzite, limestone, porcelain, and more.
Each project ceases to be just an order.
It becomes a unique piece.
Works
that endure
Some companies complete projects. Others leave a legacy.
Stone changes shape, but time confirms its value.
More than 3,000 m² of facilities.
A specialized team.
Advanced technology.
But what matters most remains unchanged:
a family company still working where it all began.
In Coín.
On the same hillside.
Near the river.
Continuing to transform stone into art
After more than 190 years, history is not measured in time, but in continuity.
MARFESA does not look back with nostalgia,
but with responsibility.
Because every new project is part of something much greater:
a legacy that continues to be built in stone.
